Journal Of Athletic Training Publishing Duke/UNC Study: Clinicians Recommend Alignmed Posture Shirt® For Prerehabilitation And Rehabilitation To Treat And Correct Posture
LOS ANGELES Feb. 25, 2013 The National Basketball Association (NBA) approved the AlignMed Inc. Posture Shirt® as medical device for Dwight Howard of the Los Angeles Lakers who suffers a shoulder injury and is recovering from last year’s back surgery. Since February, Dwight Howard, has played wearing the AlignMed device.
Now, two new studies report their own results on the AlignMed products. The results of the research have national implications in preventing sports injuries and suggest a population level solution to rising costs of musculoskeletal disorders and treatment.
The first study conducted by the Athletic Medicine Division, Intercollegiate Athletics, Duke University, Durham, NC in combination with the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory, Exercise and Sport Science Department at UNC, Chapel Hill and two other universities, published in the February issue of The Journal of Athletic Training established clinical evidence that the AlignMed Inc. Posture Shirt® corrects posture, increase electromyographic (EMG) activity of the upper, middle, and lower trapezius muscles in healthy overhead athletes and should be recommended for prerehabilitation and rehabilitation exercises in the athlete with poor posture.
